"Air Defense"

Airguns are perhaps one of the most effective, but least considered alternatives to common and persistent pest control problems.  Consider all the options - the possible cost or savings, the speed of effectiveness, the finality of the outcome - and you might agree, it's pretty difficult to get past a well-designed Air Defense.

The Problem

There are many - in type and form.  House Sparrows, English Starlings, Ferial Rock Doves (Pigeons), Mice, Rats, and Snakes* are just a few, but likely the most common in our West Virginia communities.

Unfortunately, as ecologies increasingly collide, the line separating acceptable animal habitat and where people live becomes a food chain issue that has to be addressed and resolved quickly and humanely.  Our first preference would be live trapping and release, in situations where that is a practical option.  If it is not an option, almost all of the other alternatives in-between involve cost and unnecessary suffering, from poisons or glue traps for example.  If, in the end, a life must be taken to resolve the problem, it should be done as humanely as possible, and with respect, or not at all.

The Evaluation

It's really very easy and requires no commitment from you to accept our recommendation.

The process begins with an evaluation of your particular and unique situation.  We consider, very diligently, several important factors:

  1. What is the target?

  2. Has the target developed predictable habits?

  3. Are there clear and safe shooting lanes?

  4. Is there a safe backstop?

  5. Is clean up and target retrieval possible?

  6. Can we be shielded from public misunderstanding – you will never see us solving a problem on the evening news or in the  newspaper

  7. Have local regulations been considered?

  8. Do you feel comfortable with this type of problem resolution?

In forming our plan, these questions are resolved first, before we do anything else.

Is our proposed service right for every situation?   Certainly not, and we will tell you that after we have examined all the important factors, as noted above.  If our service cannot be done humanely and safely, or if what we have is not the right tool for the job, then we pack up and go home. Our intention to help resolve a difficult situation is not motivated by sport or "success at any cost."  And for me personally, when our services are utilized, there are no feelings of joy or elation when we are done.

The Advantage

Why are airguns an option that should be considered over more conventional methods?

Well, we all know about poisons and glue traps.  Not only are they messy, they can be difficult to place in the actual area of infestation.  Additionally, they are also dependant on random happenstance - will the target eat the poison or scurry across the glue?

First and foremost, our service takes the solution to the target - at a distance, when the conditions are right, and not by chance but when we decide it is best.  It's quiet, has less of an impact on health and environmental concerns, and produces very quick and certain results.

Consider also the equipment we use: state-of-the-art, when it comes to airguns, and optics.  Because we also compete at a high level in the sport of Field Target, our tools are the best of the best.  World-class accuracy out to 50 yards, topped with 32x scopes, capable of accurate range finding a target to within one to two yards at that distance.   Typically our rigs cost in excess of $2500 and require expert technique and preparedness to master.   We understand perfectly and take very seriously the principal that when using an airgun for pest control, shot placement is the most important consideration for humane and effective results.

Something else to think about - this is a free service.  We do not charge for what we do, successful or not.  If you feel compelled to show your appreciation, we do honor contributions made to Mountain State Field Target Association, or to our home club, the South Charleston Fraternal Order of Police Gun Club.  If you have questions about this, please ask.

The First Step

When you've tried everything else, already wasted lots of time and spent lots of money, and your situation demands results right now, contact us.  Reach us by email at msftamail@verizon.net or call us by phone at 304.722-2080 or 304.549.5409.  Ask for Rick McAllister.  We will come and meet with you and provide a clear, safe, and understandable demonstration, when it is convenient for you.

* In every situation where possible, targets will be captured, removed and released unharmed well outside the affected area.  This would always be our first preference.
