Who We Are
Mountain State Field Target Association was officially formed in June of 2000. The original members consisted of just four airgun and field target enthusiasts - Rick McAllister, Dave Goldfarb, Chris Holstein, and Dr. Joe Matusic. At the present time, only two individuals have remain in the area and now make up the entirety of the MSFTA Membership. But things are always looking up.
If you take just a few moments to navigate through our website, you will see that we have several links established here and there, to our home-base airgun and Field Target range, the South Charleston Police Department's Shooting Range (FOPA.) With their support and interest in our growth, many new things field target oriented are both possible and encouraged.
Over the next few months, as our long-range plan matures and continues to take shape, other pressing issues like hosting an invitational match and acquiring addition "match-worthy" field targets should also begin to fall in place.
How This All Came Together
I'm sure, like many other things that happen in this world, what charted our path to this point wasn't exactly planned. Our direction, as it appears today, now somewhat more refined, grew and took shape mostly out of necessity to vent and to exercise our passion about the sport of Field Target.
Beginning in September of 1999, and continuing through November of 2000, we participated in four, single and multi-day public Field Target and Youth Safety exhibitions throughout WV, and competed in 14 FT matches in five different states. Along the way, through all the hours and miles, it became very clear that we had to better organize our big adventure. We finally decided on three basic organizational priorities which seemed not only achievable, but more importantly, also had far reaching benefits linked to Field Target and to our community that we required. So, here is our charter and our challenge:
That you are reading this on the Internet is also an important "first-step" for us toward reaching these goals. We now have a communications portal to new members, to West Virginia, and to FT enthusiasts across this country. We hope this will add support and strength to our effort. This optimistic quest of ours could be doubly difficult to achieve without easy communication to an interested audience about who we are and what we can offer to a shooting-sports community.
If you can't share the experience with us personally, perhaps you can visit this site on occasion to monitor our progress. You are always welcome at MSFTA.
